Not Einstein

Emerging from the hospital after an eight-day stay following major surgery, I was jarred by the normalcy of the world. The traffic, the people were still in place, seemingly unaware that my body had undergone trauma. It is both reassuring and humbling. Reassuring that society is not thrown by private events; humbling in that society doesn’t seem to be impacted by private events.
I experienced deja-vu recently when returning an Amazon package to Kohl’s. It had been months since I had entered a department store. But the store was there, products were displayed, the few shoppers were examining goods. All as if no one noticed that I had been isolating. To their credit, I rarely enter department stores. But shouldn’t someone have noticed?!
Relativity of time?
