A short diversion from observations of Canada.
A short diversion from observations of Canada.

I will momentarily digress from my observations of Canada to bring you, dear readers, up to date on the residents of the Casa de Cornelius Group Home.

I left Arizona on June 12. Communication is limited due not to the physical distance, but to the boys being boys. A few weeks ago Blue Boy related the events of a full day: First we went to target and got a new basketball for the pool and some other things. Then mom and I went to see the new Jurassic park movie. Then we spent 4 hours in the pool and had tacos [punctuation as written]

Rough. Sounds like the life of an 8-year-old.

When asked, he informed me that he leaves for Flagstaff on the 22nd.

One day Mowgli texted that it was hot and at another time requested the Netflix code which required some back and forth since The Maritimes are four hours ahead of Arizona.

Both boys thanked me via text for the small allowance and tip of the month I sent on the first.

Today is Blue Boy’s 21st birthday. This morning he responded to one of my posts so I grabbed the opportunity to Facetime and we sang happy birthday as he lolled in bed. But he was courteous and repeated my “I love you.” I am happy with that. He always makes me laugh.

Misha is loving her job, very busy preparing to take in residents to the new facility. She and the boys are packing to move. Don’t ask where. That is still to be decided.

Now, you know what I know. Unbelievable that in this age of overcommunication we talk so little. But that is okay. They could call with tragic news or whine about the vagaries of life or ask for money. I am in Nova Scotia, looking out on a lake or bay or river or ocean—a body of water—secure in the love of family.

May all of us be so blessed.
